School has been taking over my life, it’s all I have time to focus on. People have been inviting me out but I don’t go cause I know that’s lost study time. It feels like every minute closer to VCE exams is a step back from my friends. Feeling so stressed, does anyone else feel like this?
VCE/ Year 12 is very stressful. Getting the right balance between your studies and looking after yourself is the key to managing stress. It sounds like you are feeling pretty stressed and it may be helpful to take the occasional break from your studies.
You may need some down time or time with friends. Rest will also allow you to clear you head, and hopefully enable you to focus better on your studies. It's not a good idea to start isolating yourself. In fact studies show that time spent connecting with others is good for your health and concentration.
What advice would you give a good friend about what you are experiencing?
When you are feeling stuck with your writing, do some ‘snack writing’. This is where you just write all your ideas onto a page without thinking so much about it for about three minutes. Then take a break. It may also be helpful to talk to a support person or school counsellor about this further and get some more strategies for dealing with your studies and minimising stress.
