My parents yell at each other all the time. If we tell them to shut up they tell us to do our homework. I can’t do my homework when they’re yelling at each other. What should I do?
When your parents are yelling at each other it's possible that you have lots of things going on in your body – your heart might be beating faster, you might feel your muscles tightening, you may have sweaty palms or an ache in your stomach. These are all responses to the conflict and are not your fault. It's not surprising that you can’t do your homework. If it's safe for you to do so it might be good to talk to your parents and let them know how much their conflict is affecting you. If you don’t feel safe to do this you need to talk to somebody like a Student Wellbeing Coordinator or a counsellor/psychologist either at school or through one of the local youth centres.
